Over one hundred visitors joined staff at infrared and X-ray fluorescence accessory business, Specac Ltd, on 23 July for the opening of the company’s new headquarters, The Science and Innovation Centre, in Orpington, South-East London. Specac employs 85 staff, with offices in USA, China and Singapore. It designs and manufactures spectroscopic accessories for liquid, solid and gas samples. The company exports over 90 % of what it sells to more than 100 countries, and it was recognised for its achievements in 2018 with the Queen’s Award for International Trade.

David Smith, Managing Director said, “Specac is now in its 49th year, and the move into these brand new, purpose built premises is very exciting for us all. It increases our production capacity as well as providing much needed, modern, office space. We will also be able to welcome visitors to our Newton Demonstration Lab. We are a very ambitious business, and we want to do more to make the world a healthier and safer place. Our new home will make all of this possible, while minimising the impact upon the environment and our local community.”

A plaque was unveiled at the ceremony by Mr Stephen Phipson, CEO of Make UK, the national membership organisation representing UK Manufacturing. Stephen said, “The UK has a proud heritage of innovation making us the ninth largest manufacturing nation in the world and the fifth largest exporter. We have a few challenges in front of us, however, we will adapt and we will thrive. This new advanced manufacturing facility is a celebration of the confidence Specac has in that future, and I am sure Specac will continue to be one of our success stories.”

Specac’s new address is Science and Innovation Centre, Halo Business Park, Cray Avenue, Orpington, Kent BR5 3FQ, UK.
