Hamamatsu have introduced their first high-brightness deuterium (H2D2) light source, with a deuterium lamp that emits UV light at an intensity six times higher than their conventional L2D2 range of lamps. The lifetime of the lamp is guaranteed for 1000 hours, and stability is 0.05% peak-to-peak. The lamp only requires air cooling when used in its dedicated housing, and Hamamatsu have produced an optimised power supply. The lamp is available with either MgF2 or synthetic silica windows for a choice of UV output.
