Gordon F. Kirkbright Bursary 2004In 1985 a fund was established as a memorial to Professor Gordon Kirkbright in recognition of his contributions to analytical spectroscopy and to science in general. The fund is administered by the Committee of the Association of British Spectroscopists (ABS) and by the ABS Trust. The prestigious award enables promising non-tenured young scientists of any nation to attend a recognised scientific meeting or visit a place of learning. Applications are invited for the 2004 Gordon Kirkbright Bursary. The award is not restricted to spectroscopists. For further information contact: John Chalmers, Department of Physical Chemistry, School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham, University Park, Nottingham NG7 2RD, UK. Fax: +44 (0)1642 714306; e-mail: vibspecconsult@aol.com. The closing date for entries is 28 February 2004. Bunsen-Kirchhoff AwardThe DASp (German Working Group for Applied Spectroscopy) seeks nominations for the 2004 Bunsen-Kirchhoff Award. This Award recognises outstanding contributions to the field of applied spectroscopy of atoms and molecules, preferably the work of younger scientists. A lifetimes work of a scientific personality can be recognised as well. The Award consists of an Award document, €2500.00 sponsored by PerkinElmer GmbH and travel expenses to the Analytica Conference in Munich in April 2004 where the prize will be presented. Nominatons may only be made by members of the DASp, but any scientist meeting the requirements is eligible for the Award. The deadline is 31 October 2003 and further information is available from Professor Dr-Ing. Hugo M. Ortner, Chemische Analytik, FB Material-u.
